Hello fellow seamstresses.
I’m a trailing spouse living between Singapore and the UK. My children have flown the nest so I have too much time on my hands. I took up sewing 11 years ago as I’m a bit short and find it difficult to get clothes that fit.
My mother is a brilliant seamstress and has forgotten more than I will ever know, came from a post war generation who had no choice but to make their own clothes. As a child and teenager she made most of my clothes and I would pore over the vogue pattern book and choose what I wanted. I also attended a dancing school and she designed and made all the costumes. I didn’t start sewing until I was 43, living in Germany and struggling to buy clothes that fitted my petite frame (I’m 5’2″, 1.60m). I decided to buy my first sewing machine (which I still use in Singapore) and haven’t stopped since.
I’m self taught with a lot of help from Craftsy ( a fantastic learning platform) and other bloggers. I have decided to join the blogging community to reach out to other sewers as it is a very insular hobby.
