I’ve been awol recently due to a fantastic holiday in India, travelling back to the UK, a trip to London and the hot weather this meant I haven’t been sewing. Not expecting this heat I left most of my Singapore hot weather clothes behind so I needed something asap. Continue reading “Butterick 6551”→
I’ve had this pattern for quite some time but for some reason never got round to using it, big mistake as I love it. The empire line and A line skirt suit my straight up and down shape perfectly and I made view B as it’s quite a trendy silhouette at the moment. I used an organic cotton Poplin from Spotlight in Singapore which is not one of the suggested fabrics but it was ok. I’ve never worked with this fabric before but I love how easy it is to sew with especially after the silk chiffon on my shirt project. I loved it so much that I bought some more for another summer dress which I’m currently working on.Continue reading “McCalls 7116”→
I have just been to Nicole Xavier in China Town, always dangerous. This tiny store packs a mighty punch as they cherry pick the fabrics they offer. If you visit Singapore it’s well worth a visit as it’s in the Peoples Park Complex where the whole 2nd floor is dedicated to fabric.
This brocade would make a stunning skirt like the Valentino dress in my previous post or a coat.
As I’m still carrying a lot of my winter weight I decided to make another loose-fitting linen dress. I brought a lovely navy linen/viscose from Fabric Godmother back from the UK but only had one metre. Luckily I had Simplicity 1665, view A, which has a contrast top half, this allowed me to use up some white linen I had left over from a previous project. I did a colour-fast test first to make sure I could wash the finished dress.
What do you do the morning after a long haul flight? Sew of course! Having spent the last seven weeks in cold, snowy, rainy England, I have returned to Singapore. Of course the morning I left for the airport the weather was glorious, I almost changed my flight! At least now I’m motivated to make some summer clothes for when I return in June.
I have made this dress (view B) a few times and once for my sister who having had a hysterectomy needed something that was kind to her tummy area. In Singapore it’s more comfortable to wear something loose with nothing at the waist but as I live in the Orchard Road area I need to be smart too. Continue reading “Simplicity 8055”→
Hooray! At last an actual sewing post. Since I got back to the UK I’ve been plagued by a nasty cold so I’ve spent the last 7+ days on the sofa. Today I’m feeling much better so I’ve decided to get on with some sewing. Continue reading “Little Blue Dress”→
