Butterick 6551

I’ve been awol recently due to a fantastic holiday in India, travelling back to the UK, a trip to London and the hot weather this meant I haven’t been sewing.  Not expecting this heat I left most of my Singapore hot weather clothes behind so I needed something asap.

On my trip to London, I was there at the start of the liberty sale so I had access to some great bargains.  One was a lovely star print linen, perfect for a summer dress.  I knew I wanted something very loose fitting so I chose Butterick 6551 which is very easy to sew.

There isn’t much to say about this pattern except that it has a LOT of ease.  I cut a medium but ended up taking in 2cms at the side seams.  I made a couple of pleats at the back instead of gathering as it would have been bulky in the linen but would be ok if the fabric had more drape.  I would also prefer the collar to be a little narrower.

I may make it again but next time in a silk or viscose.

  1. That looks stunning Jo! Love the style and the fabric! I quite fancy this style with the bow option too! ❤️
